The Marietta City Schools Board of Education discussed progress on construction projects and selected OSports as a consultant to perform a feasibility study regarding a potential stadium during Monday’s meeting.

School district Superintendent Brad Silvus opened the meeting by reporting on his observations around the district since school opened Aug. 23.

“We are up and running. Day four is under our belts,” he said. “It’s been a good start to the year. Opening day started out great. We’ve had a lot of new staff.”

Darrell Prim, facilities and transportation manager, said Washington Elementary’s floors were finished in time for school to start. However, the roof at the school was still in progress.

“I reached out to … the construction supervisor at Pickering (Associates) over the roofs, just to get an update on exactly where we were,” Prim said. “I kind of guesstimate they are about 80 percent complete. I know they have all the rubber on. They still need to get the roof hatch in, do some metal work and get the chimney cap back on.”

Prim added the district decided to replace windows in the library on the playground side of the school.

“Frank (Antill, treasurer) and I looked at them about a week or so ago. The bottoms were rotting out. There’s no saving them,” he said.

The final item on the agenda was authorizing OSports, a Cleveland-based architectural firm, to perform a feasibility study to build a new stadium behind Marietta High School.

Silvus said the board should have an answer within three to six months once the study had started. They passed the measure unanimously.
